WA State Of Emergency Lockdown – Impact on Funerals
This information is current as at 3.00pm, Sunday January 31.
Premier Mark McGowan has announced that the Perth metropolitan area will go into a five-day lockdown after recording its first case of COVID-19 community transmission in almost 10 months. Lockdown commences at 6.00pm on Sunday January 31 2021 and is anticipated to end at 6.00pm on Friday February 5 2021.
Funerals have been specifically highlighted as events for which specific attendance restrictions will be in-place. The maximum number of attendees at any funeral for the week commencing Monday 1 February is now, by law, capped at a maximum of ten attendees plus the Funeral Director, Clergy and Cemetery Staff.
Masks are to be worn at all times when outside your place of residence. This includes at workplaces and on public transport.
We appreciate that this will be distressing for families with services scheduled for the lockdown period and are liaising with Funeral Directors to ensure families are aware.
It is important to understand that these measures have been introduced to protect your health and well-being and to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our communities.
For more information on these provisions, visit the WA Government website.
Travelling to funerals
The State Government has introduced restrictions on travel into Western Australia that have and can change on a regular basis with short notice to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. During lockdown, restrictions on intra-state travel between the regions are in place.
For more information on these travel restrictions, visit the WA Government website.
